Hidden taxes on the poor

There's a fascinating article in today's edition of The Christian Science Monitor that should be required reading for Gov. Ed Rendell and the Democratic members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Rendell and his cronies are always talking about helping the poor, but you wouldn't know it from their taxing policies, which are unfairly directed at lower-income Pennsylvanians. Taxes on liquor and cigarettes as well as state-run lotteries and gambling parlors are hidden ways to tax the poor.
