House 'fails' to deliver property tax relief

House Democrats, under the leadership of Bill DeWeese, put out press releases proclaiming a major step forward in the 30-year-old quest to eliminate property taxes in Pennsylvania.

Lawmakers' noses started growing soon after they took credit for accomplishing something.

The editorial in today's edition of The Mercury puts the recent debate on property tax relief in the state House into perspective.
"Instead of wasting time to send a political message, legislators should stick with legislation that counts.

Instead of circling the edges of tax reform with measures that chip away at the question, they should tackle it head-on with commitment to change.

Instead of taking a recess after just four days back in Harrisburg, they should stick to their jobs.

Maybe then, they could get something meaningful accomplished."
