County official sounds alarm on HUD zoning threat

From a report in the Reading Eagle:
During the Berks County Planning Commission meeting on Wednesday afternoon, county Commissioner Mark C. Scott, a planning commission member, alerted the panel to a possible threat to local zoning laws.

Scott said he recently became aware of a proposal by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development that would give the agency the power to dismantle local zoning regulations.

The purpose would be to ensure communities have what HUD considers to be a right mix of economic, racial and ethnic diversity.
